Summer Internship: AI Scientist Intern

Our mission is to scale data and AI for focus areas like Education, Healthcare, Clean Energy etc. We are training and deploying frontier models for researchers, developers and enterprises who are building AI systems for domain specific intelligence. Our research team is focused on "domain adaptation" - developing LLMs and AI systems that push the boundaries for custom domains like EdTech (Bright Owl), Healthcare etc. This involves tackling open research problems on various topics, including data curation, fine-tuning, context engines, retrieval augmentation, agent orchestration and inferencing.

Internship Overview:

As an AI Scientist Intern, you will work with our research team on projects focused on adapting LLMs and AI systems towards enterprise domains. You will have access to SOTA GenAI tools and frameworks for model pre training and fine tuning. Industry advisors and mentors who are alumni from Carnegie Mellon, University of Maryland, Intel etc. This is an unpaid internship

Responsibilities

Research

• Evaluate LLM architectures and Compound AI systems. Evaluate and augment methods from AI Research.
• Contribute to the field of domain adaptation thru streamlined and repeatable meta data driven frameworks.
• Implement new recipes for efficient post-training and inferencing .
• Conduct cutting-edge AI research, building and training large language models for Education, Healthcare etc.
• Focus on research projects aimed at expanding the frontier of knowledge in language modeling and associated protocols ranging from data to agents (e.g. Architectures , Objectives - full LM, Prefix LM, Masked LM, Adaptation , fine tuning, evaluation etc.).
• Develop novel state-of-the-art algorithms and corresponding systems, leveraging various deep learning techniques.
• Analyze and improve algorithms and systems for efficiency, scale, robustness, affordability, moderation, security, and privacy.
• Collaborate with researchers and domain partners in Education, Healthcare etc., communicating research plans, progress, and results.
• Disseminate research results through publications, datasets, models and code. Contribute to research that can be applied to product development.

Qualifications

• Required:
• Research experience and proficiency in deep learning fundamentals.
• Pursuing a PhD in computer science or a related field (e.g., electrical engineering, neuroscience, physics, math).
• Proficient software engineering skills, including deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch or Tensorflow.
• Experience with Python, C++, C, Java, or other related languages.
• Familiarity with autoregressive sequence models, such as Transformers.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey complex research findings clearly and succinctly.
• Must be available for a full-time internship lasting 3-6 months.
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain it throughout the internship.

• Preferred:
• Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or relevant technical field.
• Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
• Demonstrated expertise through publications in top-tier venues in the field of computer science and Generative AI on topics like MoE, Adaptation, Fine tuning, Evaluation, retrieval augmentation, context systems etc..
• Proven track record as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, and publications at leading workshops or conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, KDD, ACL, NAACL, IEEE S&P, MLSys, or similar.
• Proven experience in fine-tuning LLMs for specific tasks or industries , including using transfer learning techniques.
• Proficiency in handling and analyzing complex, high-dimensional data from various sources.Experience building large-scale machine learning systems and training with large datasets. Familiarity with protocols like MCP, A2A
• Demonstrated expertise working with Large Language Models such as OpenAI's GPT series , reasoning models , Deepseek models, Anthropic or Cohere - including model integration, customization, and optimization.
• Familiarity with NVIDIA stack and NIMs
