HURRICANE CITY
Public Relations & Administrative Assistant
Full-time - Salary Range
$38,000 - $50,000 depending on experience.

General Purpose

Performs a broad spectrum of professional duties; creative specialist in maintaining a positive public image for Hurricane City across media platforms including the Hurricane City website, Hurricane City radio station 104.5, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. The overall goal of the City is to enhance communication with residents and the public through positive and engaging information; aid in the administration and dissemination of information across communication platforms in conformance to Hurricane City social media policy; general management of social media sites as subject to state and local laws; secretarial, clerical, and related duties as relating to the position and as needed within the administrative office; records retention, dictation, and transcribes to draft or final copy as appropriate. May be assigned a variety of specialty assignments across departments as needed to assist in the completion of administrative projects and duties throughout the administrative functions of the City.

Supervision Received

Works under the general supervision of the City Manager.

Essential Functions - (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.   • Keeps accurate records of weekly tasks for departments and distributes reports.
  • Receives telephone and personal callers and provides information requiring knowledge or department/division policy and procedures
  • Maintains appointment calendars as needed, makes reservations, and arranges conferences and meetings.
  • Types and/or drafts a wide variety of administrative, memorandum, financial and technical documents and reports from drafts, notes, or dictation; proofreads correspondence and reports.
  • Serves as administrative support for administration and various boards and committees. Schedules and coordinates meetings.
  • Prepares, edits, and proofreads communication and information prior to dissemination of information to the public. Public notices, agendas, and supporting materials.
  • Responding to requests for information release or press conference from the media or designating a spokesperson or source of information.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with consumer, community, employee, and public interest groups.
  • Liaison between Hurricane City and county-wide communication counterparts.
  • Press releases and other media communications to enhance communication and promote positive city engagement.
  • Planning or directing the development of programs to maintain favorable public and community views of the organization's agenda and accomplishments.
  • Coaching city and administrative representatives in effective communication with the public and employees.
  • Studying the organization's objectives, social policies, and needs to build public relations strategies that influence public opinion and promote products, ideas, and services.
  • Preparing and editing organizational publications, including City newsletter and reports, for internal and external audiences.
  • Updating and maintaining social media content.
  • Conferring with managers to identify trends and group interests and providing advice on business decisions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in journalism, PR, marketing, or related field.

· Minimum of four (4) years' experience.

· Possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver's License throughout employment.

· Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening required.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

· Knowledge of various social media platforms.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Experience handling a press conference.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to pitch to media.

· Knowledge of consumer marketing.

· An ability to work on big strategy plans as well as day-to-day tasks.

· Ability to think both creatively and strategically.

· Ability to run PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet objectives.

· Deadline-oriented, inquisitive, with great follow-up and reporting skills.

· Creativity in securing coverage and buzz with traditional outlets.

· Understanding of social media and solid experience working with bloggers and other social media experts

· Project and budget management skills.

· Responds well under pressure with strict time limit.

· Quick and enthusiastic learner

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, sitting or standing for extended periods while assisting customers and while operating assigned office equipment. Walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Talking, hearing, and seeing is essential in the performance of daily tasks. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, and critical thinking. Considerable exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, including dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous individuals as part of the job requirements.

Condition of Employment

Employee may be required to work extended or irregular hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays. Hurricane City employment can require employees to occasionally work outside of their normal job duties to assist with city sponsored events and/or projects. The employee is expected to forgo normal work duties to assist with the completion of these events and/or projects. In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
