Job Responsibilities

The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is seeking a hardworking and dependable candidate just like you to apply! Under the supervision of the Director of Outreach and Community Engagement, the Spark Actor-Teacher Coach manages the daily operations of the Spark team and works alongside Spark leadership to secure and support Spark programmatic efforts statewide. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Serves as the senior member of the Spark leadership team, directly supervising all Actor-Teachers, Training Coordinator and Curriculum Specialist, and acts as the Spark liaison to the Office of Outreach; oversees schedules, leads team meetings, gathers data as requested, and represents the team in organizational structures. Responsible for team efforts and outcomes and works effectively with the Assistant Director of Outreach. Participates In efforts of the larger Governor's School and Office of Outreach community; maintains a professional code of conduct, internal environmental focus and external environmental focus.
  • Collaborates with the Curriculum Specialist to observe and coach Actor-Teachers in the field and in curriculum development assignments, and regularly monitors relationships with ongoing partner schools and districts. Provides leadership to the Spark team b v supporting training and professional learning, co-teaching, mentoring, and regularly scheduled feedback sessions (including required departmental 6-month check-ins and annual evaluations).
  • Collaborates with the larger Arts Grow SC network statewide, including attending meetings on behalf of SCGSAH; works with leadership to train summer Spark contractors and non-Spark stakeholders in the model through Professional Development avenues, and works with Assistant Director of Outreach to recruit and negotiate programming offers with schools, districts and other stakeholders. Supports the recruitment and development of summer Spark In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Outreach.
  • Provides drama experiences in elementary school settings as assigned; communicates with relevant personnel and develops school-based relationships; creatively adjusts curriculum to support individual school needs; provide drama interventions as appropriate to the partner school setting but within Spark framework; assist teachers in learning Spark skills for their classrooms.

Minimum and Additional Requirements


A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge theatre in early childhood or elementary school setting; experience working with public school students, staff and administrators; strong planning, scheduling, and written/verbal communication skills; successful independent or remote work experience.
  • Experience in applied theatre formats, curriculum writing, lesson planning, and building community relationships. Demonstrated ability to work within a team and also independently in the field.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with experience providing theatre education services directly to groups of students at the elementary or middle school level, whether in classroom, theatre or after-school settings.
  • Experience designing and facilitating workshops or classes for groups regardless of age; solid background in theatre or performing arts.

Additional Comments

This position is remote from Greenville campus and assigned to regional public elementary schools across South Carolina. The position reports to the Office of Outreach at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, South Carolina. This position provides leadership, oversight, co-teaching support and some possible coverage statewide to a team of Community Actor - Teachers in some or all of the following: Florence/PeeDee, Georgetown/Williamsburg, Columbia/Midlands, Laurens/Saluda, Cherokee/Rock Hill, Greenville and the Lowcountry.
